Mars Probes...why?

Can you please tell me why we keep wasting millions of dollars on missions to Mars? And don't tell me we're looking for traces of ice, which means there was once water, which means there once was life, blah,blah,blah. All you star trek geeks need to get over it...WE WILL NEVER LIVE ON MARS!!!
