Did St. Peter Deny Christ or obey Christ's commandment to deny Him?

Peter is like every one else, he had fear & doubt sure he may have acted brave in the garden but all his friends were with him alone he was weak . Also why would Christ who wants us to follow Him as He did for the apostles have Peter deny Him ? He wants every one to claim Him .We all fall short even the apostles did at times no one is perfect.
