The guy will most likely know, but it would be better if you would prepare him for it. As far as pain, I can only speak of experience when I was with a virgin who still had her hymen intact, she felt a good amount of pain at first and bled. Of course, some girls tear their hymen when young from everyday activities. So I guess it depends.
